He was living in Jul 1860 at Dolson Township, Clark County, Illinois. At age 15, Curtis enlisted in the Army of the North as a drummer boy. He served under General Grant until he went with General Sherman on the march to the sea. He substituted for another man, Fred Dolly, and took that name for a while. He took a claim at Coffeyville, Kansas but could not make a go of it. He came then to a farm in Montgomery County, Illinois. He and Margaret Melinda Hefley had fourteen children. The cause of death was listed as "Broncha Pneumonia" with a contributory cause listed as "Softening of Brain."

18. George Arthur⁸ Hammond (Roxanna⁷, Lyman⁶, Jedediah⁵, Jedediah⁴, Seth³, Samuel², Benjamin¹) was born in 1863 at Illinois. He married Sarah Rockwell on 25 Dec 1883 at Clark County, Illinois. He died in 1936 in an automobile accident near Auburn, Illinois, east of Martinsville. He was buried at Bean Cemetery, Parker Township, Clark County, Illinois.

He was a farmer. Arthur became President of Martinsville State Bank after his father, Clark Hammond, died. He ran the bank until Roosevelt closed the banks in 1933. He lived in Parker Township.

19. Howard F.⁸ Hammond (Roxanna⁷, Lyman⁶, Jedediah⁵, Jedediah⁴, Seth³, Samuel², Benjamin¹) was born in 1866 at Clark County, Illinois. He married Minerva F. Rairdin on 30 Sep 1888 at Clark County, Illinois. He died in 1957 at (probably) Long Beach, California. He was buried at Bean Cemetery, Parker Township, Clark County, Illinois.

He moved to Long Beach, California, to live with Roxanna, his daughter.

He was educated at Westfield College, Westfield, Clark County, Illinois. He and Loah Pence lived one-half mile east of Roy and Myrtle Hammond until at least 1924, then operated a store in Clarksville, Illinois for a short time. Afterwards, they moved to Charleston so their children could attend college.

He died on 16 Aug 1926 at age 57. He was buried at Bean Cemetery, Parker Township, Clark County, Illinois.

Children of Alanson Parker⁸ Hammond and Anna "Annie" Bennett were:

i. Frederick Alanson⁹; b. 8 Dec 1894; m. Eula Catherine Stephenson 12 Aug 1916; d. 19 Mar 1967 at age 72.

In the Clark County Democrat on 16 Aug 1916 listing recent marraige licenses issued in Clark County was "Fred A. Hammond, 21, Parker Twp. to Eula C. Stephenson, 20, Martinsville, Ill."
